    Weeknotes #07/24

My #weeknotes have somehow turned into weekend notes due to the fact that during winter I don’t get out as much. So there’s little going on during the week, and less to share. Most of what’s going on in my life is books and shows and movies I watch on TV. I’m not a big phone fan, so don’t download and mess with the latest apps. And I’m not what you would call a gamer either. My limit is a farm game called Hay Day that I’ll play in an evening watching the telly. Hardly Call of Duty or the like.

There will be more street photography as the weather improves and I can get out more for trips to my 3 fav locale gardens and parks. But until the, as they say.

This weekend saw me flying solo, which was kind of nice as I turned Saturday into a kind of pamper-me spa day, including eating what I wanted (within reason). Doing the Sunday chores wasn’t as much fun and, as a result of being shorthanded (as it were) I did the bare minimum necessary. And why not.

📺 TV Shows & Movies watched include:

    • Death & Other Details (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • The Mandalorian (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • The Book of Boba Fett (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Ahsoka (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Red Panda (movie) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • The Marvels (movie) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I've given up watching **Monsieur Spade** (Acorn TV) as the last couple of episodes seem to ramble on about the French occupation of Algeria back in the 50s. And I can't say I was over enamoured with the last episode of **Criminal Record** either, which basically was flashback and one long excuse for Hegarty's actions and behaviour. I feel a copout coming.

Meanwhile, I thoroughly enjoyed watching The Marvels and laughed, a lot! It pays to watch it with no preconceptions and just enjoy the silliness of it all, people-eating cats and all. Hilarious!

    Weeknotes #05/24

Week five done and dusted, and yes, another relatively quiet week. No one here plans anything more than trips to the grocery given the weather’s usually cold, dark, and or snowing. We save ourselves till spring arrives somewhere at the end of April … no, I kid you not. However, staying at home has meant catching up on projects, putting a dent in my reading pile, and watching a lot more TV than is probably healthy for any one person than is recommended. But hey, what else is there to do on long winter days and nights?

While I have finished reading two books I have yet to be bothered to write up anything by way of a review for either. Bother were enjoyable enough and that’s enough.

I did get some more work done on the travel blog and, also, looked seriously into places to visit this summer for our holidays. And while the OH wants to go back to France, I vetoed us going anywhere near Paris. If we do go, it would have to be well after the olympics are over with. Then, maybe not. We’ll see.

Thursday saw us move from January to February and, with it, I got a call from the doctor’s office with an appointment to see him on the 22nd at 8 am. A follow-up from my blood tests at the end of January. I can only assume it’s for my annual check up, as there was no ambulance waiting outside to rush me to hospital. But really … 8 am? Seriously?

    📺 TV Shows watched include:

    • The Claremont Murders (Acorn TV) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Percy Jackson & the Olympians season finale (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Death & Other Details (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Criminal Record (Apple+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Wild Cards (CBC) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Obi-Wan Kenobi (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • The Night Manager (Acorn TV) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Monsieur Spade (Acorn TV) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Star Wars VII (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Star Wars VIII (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Star Wars IX (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️
And so, we begin another week, one started with bright sunshine. I hope that means warmer weather to come? I hope so. Meanwhile, have a great week, everyone.

    Weeknotes #04/24

Last week was a blur not because I was exceptionally busy, indeed, quite the opposite in fact. It was so empty and devoid of anything of interest happening that, by Saturday, I was left wondering where the week had gone. Saturday, however, was the one month anniversary of the passing of my father in law. So we were all up early and at mass—and no, before you ask, I’m not Catholic let alone religious—but, in support of the family, I went.

The reward for an early morning and feeling oddly out of place, was that the service took place in the crypt of the basilica, and therefore, while freezingly cold, we were surrounded by lots of flowers and gold-leaf splendour.

To make up for the fact we were all blue (on so many levels) we met up at the same restaurant as we did after the funeral, in December. It was good to sit in the warmth and tuck into a hearty breakfast (brunch).

Sunday in contrast, we did naff all including skipping the usual cleaning ritual—though I did wash the bedding and have a shower. There are some things you just don’t skip.

📺 TV shows watched this week:

    • Monsieur Spade S1. E2.
    • Death & Other Details S1. E3.
    • Percy Jackson and the Olympians
    • Criminal Record S1. E4.
    • Stitchers S3.
    • Star Wars: Andor
And, because I binge watched the first season of Andor, I also snuck in a re-watch of Star Wars: Rogue One.

This week also saw me cook a lot of chicken. My sister in law gave me a large batch that I then turned into, a Moroccan tagine dish with apricots, a chicken hot pot, chicken and chips, and Italian chicken with pasta.

This week there will be no chicken on the menu.

    Weeknotes 03/24

So week three started slowly, but ended with a party—more on that later. I can’t say anything exciting happened. The OH is still dealing with a ton of paperwork finishing up with their father’s passing in December. I never thought we’d still be here, in the 3rd week of January filling in online forms for this government department, and that one. What creeps me out is the fact that so many of these forms have to be filed with a copy of the death certificate—which, by the way, still hasn’t been officially issued by the relevant government department (we might get it mid-February!) Never mind the fact they also want a fee.

It’s exhausting. That’s what it is.

Anyway, all that aside, I got back into my cooking groove this week and knocked at a so-so lasagne, a large pot of hearty tomato soup, and made a from scratch rice pudding while I was at it.

Friday morning I had a visit from the nurse to draw blood, 3 vials this time, for my annual check up at the beginning of February. Hopefully, everything is as it should be.

As I said, we celebrated my sister in law’s birthday party at a high-end steak place in town Saturday evening and, while we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the food wasn’t that high-end or great. But I behaved myself and didn’t complain making sure I didn’t disrupt the mood at the table. I ate my lukewarm steak in silence, with a smile, and washed it down with a Shirley Temple.

📺 TV shows watched this week:

    • Criminal Records — episode 3 rocked it, as do the two stars of the show, Peter Capaldi & Cush Jumbo.
    • Death and other Details — I'm thoroughly enjoying the sniping on this whodunit!
    • Stitchers Season 2 — was equally as enjoyable as season 1.
    • Station Eleven — I started watching the first couple of episode of this one and, well, I'm not sure. It's not that the acting is bad or anything it's just that do I really want to watch another post-apocalypse show after we all went through the real thing these last 4 years?
And that, they say, is it. Other than getting to see the family on Saturday in a party mood, it's been a slow, quiet week.

    Weeknotes #02/24

A curious week of of everyone slowly easing back into normalcy and routine, with not a lot going on other than work. It’s just too damn cold and snowy this week to go out or do anything, in stark contrast to the last couple of months of mild weather. Winter definitely let her wrath be known this week with almost 2 feet of snow, and temps plummeting down towards minus 20 at one point. Topping the week off with a huge storm Friday through Saturday.

I joined in with a few others in testing and playing around with Vincent’s new Scribbles blogging space. Like Bear and Pika pages, it’s a bear bones offering at this stage, but with a nice clean interface, and editing tools that make posting easy. I’m sure Vincent will add and tweak it based on user feedback or, as he sees fit.

Next weekend we’re all off out on the Saturday to eat at a high end steak place for my sister in law’s 50th birthday bash. My OH was in talks to go half in on the bill with my sister in law’s partner. But, given the cost of a simple steak there, we might need to take out a second mortgage to pay for our own meals let alone a party of 8. I’ll tell you more in next week’s weeknotes.

📺 TV shows watched this week:

    • Criminal Record (Apple+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — enjoyed the opening 2 episodes of this new British-based crime drama from the Apple stable. Down, dirty, and gritty.
    • For All Mankind (Apple+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ — this season finale lacked a good cliffhanger and felt a little lacklustre to me
    • Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — now this is how you end a season, on a great action sequence with a good cliffhanger
    • Class of '09 (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ — this one lacked a cohesive narrative and had unsympathetic characters
    • Stitchers (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ — watchable silly scifi fun solving crime by getting into the minds of the dead
Meanwhile, though short in length, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, showing on Disney, goes from strength to strength. I'm really enjoying the kids in this one.

    🍿 Movies watched:

    • The Family Plan (Apple+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Mark Wahlberg doing his thing in this fun action-packed romp. Grab the popcorn and just enjoy!

And you, what have you all been up to this week?

    Week Notes Abridged Version

I should be sat here writing up my Week Notes #16 but, really, I don’t think anyone wants me ramble on about who took my father in law to which appointment, where. And that we’ve all been running around sharing driving duties, amongst other things. Or that we’ve instigated a group chat to keep up with who needs to be where and when. But hey, look, that’s exactly what I’m doing because I need to spill my spleen before I choke on my own bile.

Add to that it was a long weekend as my in laws live outside of the city, 30 minutes drive away. So, that yesterday, when we got a tired call from the mother in law saying she’d called an ambulance, we knew it was going to be another long night. Which it was.

The OH took all the text messages that went back and forth through out the night. But still, we were both awake most of the night doing vigil with everyone else as there was nothing else we could do.

My father in law is being released back into family care but, as far as I’m concerned this is stupid, he really needs 24 hour care at the moment. None of which any of us can give him, least of all my mother in law who is 85!

With so many people refusing to wear a mask and cut down on covid, the hospital system is over capacity and, people like my father in law are not getting the help and treatment they deserve. Ask me if I’m angry? You bet the (delete swearword) I am. But what the hell else can we do but our best?

Please, please take care of yourselves and while you’re at it, please take a moment to stop and think of others.

    Week Notes #15

Last week was a very long week with lots of family stuff going on so that this weekend, me and mine stayed home rather than drive to go see my father in law. Everyone’s exhausted. There was a lot of juggling with cars and people taking time off to shuttle my father in law to daily hospital appointments. It was crazy, having two each day at different hospitals with hours in between appointment. It was, as to be expected, a scheduling nightmare for all involved.

Thankfully, the weekend has given everyone time off to recharge batteries and fill up gas tanks for the next round, this week.

👀 As a good distraction, I bought a new domain name and created In Review, a website covering reviews for books, movies, and TV shows. It seems to be doing well if the hits and visitor logs are to be believed. I’m happy people are finding it useful.

Meanwhile, thanks to Hiro for the heads up about the 🚀 Rocket Emoji utility app, which I downloaded. Plus the news James Cameron is updating his movie, The Abyss, to 4k and rerelease in cinemas.

🍿 Even with all the family stuff, me and mine managed to squeeze in plenty of downtime of an evening and watched:

    • Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Eps. 1 & 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • A Murder at the End of the World Eps. 1 & 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • For All Mankind S.4 Eps. 1 & 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Mary Queen of Scots ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Week Note #14

Last week is a really difficult week to unpack with all that’s happening to my extended family, what with my father in law’s cancer diagnosis. As such, he starts his first full week of treatment, today, with us all hoping that the aggressive plan will, in the end, provide positive results. We’re orangising for the long haul, and hoping for the best.

As with any potential long-term illness, we’re rallying around and trying to plan for any kind of eventuality. Which has meant a lot of long phone calls every evening. Having been through this all before, with my own father, I know what to expect and that’s to expect the unexpected. Life sure loves to throw a lot of curve balls. Especially as my father in law’s diagnosis is not the only bad news we had last week. My OH’s aunt also spent a night in the ER after her heart almost stopped beating.

The upshot there is, she’s going in for surgery to have a pacemaker fitted in the next couple of weeks. She’s 85, which brings with it its own set of problems and worries.

🍿 Aside from all the family matters, me and mine haven’t really done much else but sit in from of the one-eyed monster of an evening, and try to watch movies as a distraction. We’ve watched:

    • The Dressmaker ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • True Grit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Oz The Great And Powerful ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Meanwhile, another Monday, another week, and here's hoping everyone has a good one.

    Week Notes #13

⏰ Well the week ended with the clocks going back to standard time, here, last night. And then, of course, we had an early start to our day, today. Why does this always happen? I’m sure there’s a glitch in the Matrix system somewhere. But I digress. Saturday we hit the mall for a run on Walmart to stock up on essentials (coffee being primary) before everyone here goes Christmas crazy. Yes, it’s a fact, it happens the minute November arrives. Every weekend becomes the Battle of the Bulge and, if you lived here, you’d understand that reference.

Needless to say, we got everything on our list and, if all goes to plan, neither of us will have to visit the mall again till after Christmas. Hallelujah!

I missed the last of Fall colour here what with one thing and another and the weather not cooperating, at all! So that when I did get out for a walk (or two) around the neighbourhood, the trees were pretty much in their nude phase. So, out of politeness (I’m like that) I refrained from taking any nude portraits.

    Watching:

    • Noelle (Disney, 2019) — This super sweet holiday movie was the charm making me laugh more than once. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Lightyear (Disney, 2022) — I don't know why it took me so long to get around to watching this one. It was another fun-filled laugh out loud outing in the Toy Story universe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Quiz Lady (Disney, 2023) — This ribald comedy starring Sandra Oh and Awkwafina as two crazy sisters is R-rated for a reason, mostly (I think) because of the close to the bone humour. Definite one for the adults. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    Projects:
    • I want to get Flags (Tinylytics) up on the website. But I can't decide whether to do places I've visited or where visitors are from?
    • Everyone seems to be adding a new page to their blogs this weekend, but do I need a Defaults Page?
    • More important I add a section for Fiction (or, writing?)
And finally, looking forward with anticipation to cracking open the spine on my Hobinichi diary, 2024, I ordered some new stickers packs and 6 rolls of washi tape.

    Week Notes #12

🌦️ Finally, it had to happen, the weather couldn’t possibly continue to rain forever … we’re having our first full day of sunny weather in over 17 days of drizzle and rain. And not a day too soon. Because, guess what? They’re forecasting snow, that’s SNOW, for tomorrow. Downside, it was TWO degrees this morning … TWO!

🎃 I shouldn’t complain about the weather, it is Fall after all, which means wrapping up warm to go out, but coming hot to drink pumpkin spiced coffee or better yet, hot chocolate with all the trimmings. It also means back to cooking soups and stews for dinners, and making rich rice puddings for dessert. Yum, I love autumn!

💉 Following on from getting our flu shot the other week, this week saw me and mine get both our Fall Covid booster and a shot for pneumonia. The upshot of which, meant both of us suffered with mild symptoms that left us feeling a little worse for wear. Thankfully, we weathered it and are back to our normal grouchy selves. The positive thing is we’re now fully vaxxed again!

🔎 Thanks to Maique I always discover new things happening around the web, and this week learnt tinylytics has some new features (a webring & flags) I’d like to try implement. Should be fun.

We continue to watch a couple of shows on various channels including:

    • Loki - which, this season, has been hit or miss on quality
    • Lessons in Chemistry - which, this week, turned a corner and found its feet
    • Invasion - it was the season finale on Wednesday that left us, once again, dangling on tenterhooks
    • Fastforward - we binged all 22 episodes this past 10 days. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Not a lot else happened this week mostly because of the rain, so I missed most of the Fall foliage. Maybe next year.

    Week Notes #11

💉I guess the most important thing that happened this week was we got our flu shot. While, at the same time, having to reschedule our covid shot because we were 11 days too early, and they refused us. I’m still angry at the time and money wasted. Our shots are now rebooked for Monday, 23nd.

🌧️ September’s beautiful weather didn’t carry through to this month, and other than a couple of days at the start of October, it’s pretty much been overcast and or drizzle every day since. At least it hasn’t snowed yet, though we all know that’s coming (soon.)

🥮 Added a new recipe for Banana Bread over on my food blog for those who are interested.

    Watching:

    • 🍿 This week's movie was Shang-Chi and the legends of the Ten Rings (Disney +) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • 📺 We also started watching Lessons in Chemistry (Apple +) and watched episodes 1 & 2 and ... well, I'm undecided as to weather I'm all in or not. Will see what unfolds in the next episode. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Meanwhile, not a lot else happening right now. I'm still tinkering with other projects, and wondering which book to read next of the 53 sat on the coffee table eying me with distain.

    📝 Week Notes #9

    Weekly Highlights of September 18-24:

💉Me and mine booked our triple vaccine date for October, and will get the flu, COVID and RVS shots all at once. At least, that’s the plan. Shame we couldn’t have gone earlier since I was sick most of last week with what we think was my first dose of the Rona! Though, of course, the tests I took were inconclusive. So much for at home testing. Maybe I just had a bad head cold, who knows.

☀️ The weather throughout September has been spectacular, so far. While cool in the mornings, we’ve had mostly sunny days and balmy warm afternoons, with clear brilliant blue skies. Today is the first day it’s been blustery with a few white puffy Simpson’s cloud scudding across the sky. Perfect really.

📸 I’ve been participating in the micro.blog September photo challenge, though missed a week because I was ill,  if you’d like to look at the photos I did post, check out this link!

    📺 Watching:

    • Perception (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Foundation (Apple+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Invasion (Apple+) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • The Chelsea Detective (Acorn TV) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Ahsoka (Disney+) ⭐️⭐️ p.s. Thrawn the blue boy was the funniest thing ever!
    🎧 Listening To:
    • Manic by Halsey
    • These Are The Days by Jann Arden
    • Use Me by Pvris
    • Folklore by Taylor Swift
    Creating:
    • I'm thinking of creating a website to feature the city where I live, and call it Ma Belle Ville (My Beautiful City). But can't decide on whether to do it as a sub of my main website, or buy a new domain name.

    Week Notes #8

So, what happened last week? Well, not a lot.

⛱ It was a bank holiday Monday last week, so, a short week, but don’t ask me what we did it went by so fast and here we are, on a new week already!

☀️ The weather went from rain, rain and rain in August to sultry, hot and 30+ temps making us believe summer had finally arrived but, this weekend, it all ended in rain again. Oh well, it was good while it lasted. We’re back to atypical September weather, cool, breezy and variable skies.

✏️ Prompted by Sylvia who’s doing the same, and looking to resurrect enthusiasm for my writing, I’m putting together a writing website at, Fictional Wolfe. Check it out if you’re interested in reading some free fiction.

🍔 I’m sorely tempted to follow in Michael’s footsteps and start sharing my favourite recipes again. Watch this space for more, as they say.

📺 We continue to enjoy Invasion on Apple TV+ more so than Foundation, which continues to promise so much and never quite delivers.

🍿 We finally got around to watching Black Panther: Wakanda Forever last night and, well, I have mixed feelings. While I loved we got a second outing despite the heartbreaking loss of Chadwick Boseman, I just wish someone had edited this down to a viewable length. At 2 hr 43 mins long, it was an hour past being good. Not my fav ⭐️⭐️⭐️

    📚 Books read: none.

    📝 Week Notes #7

⛈️ And, what a week of more volatile weather. August has been another bust. And I thought July was the wettest month ever, on record. But August is giving July a run for its money. Still, another week to go, things could turn around. But then, I don’t see that happening. Maybe summer will arrive in September?

    Wishful thinking …

🍺 So this weekend saw the last of this season’s festivals, the beer fest. Which as it turns out was a wash-out we’re told. We didn’t go. We were going to go … but then, last week we heard that the new Covid strain, Eris, had become the dominant strain here, and that numbers had spiked 400% … but then, several open air festivals over the summer could account for that stat! No surprises there.

📸 I finally set up a Pixelfed account for my photos to have a home, and will crosspost from my micro.blog account, for those who are interested, you can find me here: Wolfe

👂🏻 Like a couple of other people, I’m ordering a pair (or two) of Loop Quiet Earplugs as recommended by Andy. Will you look at that colour? Anyway, my OH can snore to their heart’s content, me? I’ll be wearing earplugs from now on.

    📺 Watching:

    • She Hulk ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Wanda Vision ⭐️⭐️
    • White Collar (season 1) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Harrow (season 2) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
And yes, we're still struggling through **Foundation** and wondering if it will ever a) improve and b) get to the point. We're not holding our collective breath, that's for sure.

Meanwhile, the weather doesn’t look like it will be improving much this week, not that we’re going anywhere. But, you know, you do hope.

Here’s to Fall arriving and Pumpkin Spiced Lattes galore!

    📝 Week Notes #6

Since not a lot has happened this week, I thought I’d do a round-up of all the Disney/Marvel TV shows & movies we’ve been binge watching instead. And boy, have we gone through a few.

    In no particular order:

    • Hawkeye ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Loki ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Solo ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Obi-Wan Kenobi ⭐️⭐️
    • The Mandalorian ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • The Book of Boba Fett ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    • Guardians of the Galaxy #3 ⭐️⭐️

📺 Other than taking solace in watching the above, we’re still clinging to the hope Foundation will start getting better but, five episodes in, it’s not looking good. So far this second season has been all over the place, disjointed, and lacking any cohesive storytelling. And all these new characters? Are not bringing anything to the table, as they say.

📚 Check out my review of Cold Storage if you’re looking for a creepy, fast-reading thriller. This one was fun!

No new music this week, I still have Taylor Swift on rotation, which pretty much covers it. And you, what have you been up to this week?

    📝 Week Notes #5

Here are the highlights of the last week.

❤️ Today is the last day of our summer holidays and, it’s back to work for the OH. We crammed in a few trips out in between the rain. Going HERE and HERE and yesterday, delighted in the first of this years local strawberry crop, HERE!

📱 Of course the big news was the upgrade, trading in my old iPhone 12 for an iPhone 14 Pro (purple) and then … spending 4 hours doing all the necessary updates and upgrading before I could even transfer all my data. I think it might be 3-4 years before I upgrade again!

🧑🏼‍💻 The blogroll I kept talking about doing finally came to fruition and, I’m happy to say, was inspiration for others to create their own (check out Mihobu’s). I love that we’re getting back to what makes blogging fun again.

📺 We succumb and took out a sub with Disney + and haven’t looked back. We’ve been binge-watching several shows and worked our way through (so far) Andor ⭐️⭐️, Secret Invasion ⭐️⭐️ and are half way through the Mandalorian, which is a definite ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and looking forward to slowly working our way through their catalogue.

📚 I stalled out on reading my current read, last week, just not in the mood. I’m hoping the cooler weather of autumn (not that far off) will ignite me back into reading.

August looks to be a busy festival month, this year. People are itching to get out. So I’m looking forward to the weather staying dry so we can do them all!

    📝 Week Notes #4

🌦️ Another week of crazy-ass weather where we have two days of none-stop rain followed by a single day of glorious sunshine. I have never seen so much rain as we’ve had since the snows melted in April. I guess our local reservoir is full!

🌳 Despite the rain’s best attempts, we did get out Wednesday and went down into Vieux Quebec (Old Quebec) and acted like a couple of tourists. Also enjoyed a great brunch at the classy Clarendon Hotel, I mean, who doesn’t love maple soaked crepes, right?

📲 I already posted this week about refreshing the look of my blog with Matt Langford’s Tiny Theme, and adding the Tinylytics plugin.

🚌 We got some good news at the start of the week about the monthly bus pass we bought for this month, we’re entitled to put in a claim for lost days because of the bus strike at the start of the month. Which is welcome news. We can claim for 10 days! Not sure how much we’ll get back, but hey, it’s the principal.

📺 We’re desperate for something to watch at the moment since neither of us are enjoying either Hijack or the second season of Foundation. So, on the advice of others we’re going to give both Acapulco and Crowded Room a go.

🍿 No movies this week since we ditched Netflix.

    Week Notes #3

What is it with Mondays and rain? I’m sure Mother Nature schedules it on purpose. Weather aside. This last week we’ve been working our way through a selection of new content on Apple TV, and have enjoyed a couple of really good shows and a couple that left us, well, at sorts.

📺 Like many, we’re hanging on a plot thread waiting for the last episode of Silo to drop next Friday to find out what the hell’s going on. That is, of course, if they don’t leave us hanging till season 2. So far though, this one has been engrossing and the performances have been excellent. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

📺 We also watched the second season of Slow Horses, which is one of those weird shows that leave you at odds. On the one hand I’m enjoying the political intrigue and machinations. But, on the other hand, there’s not one likeable character in the whole bunch, which kind of makes it hard to connect with emotionally. Though I have to say Gary Oldman has been given a juicy role as Jackson Lamb. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🍿 In between the above shows, we watched the highly enjoyable action-thriller, Ghosted, starring Ana de Armas and Chris Evans, who looked like they were having way too much fun. We laughed, we laughed a lot at this one, which featured a silly running gag and a great deal of humour. If you want 2 hours of mindless fun, give this one a go. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Of the couple of shows that didn’t quite do it for us (having only watched two or three episodes) were Truth Be Told. The jury is still out on that one. Then Liaison, which, on paper and, featuring Vincent Cassel (French actor) and Eva Green, should have worked but instead fizzled like a wet firework in a torrential downpour. This one we might come back to.

    thingsThisWeek #1

As it rained all weekend (again) and we didn’t get out (again) I binge watched a couple of TV shows, started a new book, and phoned the dentist to schedule my next hygiene appointment. It seems the first space they have available is for February next year … wtf?

I’ll have to wait and see if they have a cancellation between now and then.

📺 I watched and still don’t know how I managed to get through 8 episodes of Marie Antoinette (CBC), which, quite frankly, is 8 hours of my life I’ll never get back. As period dramas go, this one is typical of the let’s rewrite fact with fiction and make it a sex-romp genre that seems to be popular these days. ⭐️⭐️

📚 Picked up a new read this week, Oath of Loyalty a Mitch Rapp novel by Kyle Mills, a political spy thriller. And you better believe I love me a good spy thriller and hope this one delivers. Will let you all know how it goes.

🎶 Finally got a copy of Taylor Swift’s Midnights (my third album) and loaded it up onto all my devices this weekend. Listening to it right now … I’m in a Lavender Haze. Does this make me a Swifty? 😛

And you, what are you reading/watching?
