🍿 This weekend, amid other shows, we watched News of the World a western starring Tom Hanks as a grumpy but honest ‘newspaper reader’. Set at the end of the civil war, in Texas, Hanks' character is a lens through which we witness the loss, poverty, desperation, and brut violence of the time when he rescues a displaced child in need of his protection.

The pair set out on a journey to take her to her last living relatives and, along the way, encounter any number of violent hurdles, none of which I should add, are the indigenous people of the area.

Thoughtful, poignant and yes, with moments of subdued and or implied violent, this was, by the end, actually uplifting. Tom Hanks and his young costar, Helena Zengal, gave this one heart.

A thoughtful ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
