Movie Weekend Watch

Of the two movies we watched this weekend, Kung Fu Panda 4 on Saturday night and, DUNE 2 last night. I have to say, I think I preferred and enjoyed Kung Fu Panda more than DUNE. Why? It was light, silly, funny, full of clever in jokes, and I love that it featured Jack Black back as Po, and Awkwafina as the fox, Zhen. And let’s not forget Angela Bassett as the Chameleon, who nearly stole the whole movie.

The interplay between these two characters, and the guest voices of all the other characters, made this one just fun to watch. I love me a good animated movie anyway, but the Panda series has managed to maintain it’s humour and high quality animation throughout.

Meanwhile, part 2 of DUNE was (in places) a little either tedious or, too rushed. I felt like a number of key points in the book were lightly skipped over, like Lady Jessica’s transition to Mother Superior, never mind here’s a couple of quick flash scenes to convince you Chani and Paul are now soulmates for life (despite the fact he agrees to marry Princess Irulun at the end!) Oh, and I wasn’t a fan of the gratuitous violence either.

This really should have been at least a ten part series and not just 2 movies. Especially as the subtles are lost in translation in a movie trying to cram in so much in the way of events.

Maybe I just need to watch it again, and again, or watch both parts back to back. Or wait for Kung Fu Panda 5 to come out …
