Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2
Wednesday, October 30, 2024
So last night we came to the end of watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 on DVD and …
Talk about ending the season on yet another cliffhanger, right in the middle of a battle with the Gorn and … and making us wait well over a year to get to see the conclusion. Although it’s pretty evident that, unless someone is in contract negotions and playing hard to get, everyone will be back next year. So the only death in the family will be the familiar Red Shirts and or, the odd recurring guest star.
And … not to spoil it for anyone who isn’t caught up I’ll say no more about individual episodes. But just say, overall, this was a cracking season. We had drama, action, pathos, loss, and plenty of romance with out it becoming cloying. Loads of humour and some really great action, plus a cross over episode with Lower Decks (which, funnily enough, I really enjoyed) and even a first for Star Trek … a musical episode.
Damn, but Subspace Rhapsody was good. The singing, the humour, the riff on musical theatre in general, and then, squeezing it all into an episode that made sense was an achievement. I’m generally not big on people bursting into song, for whatever reason, but the writers really pulled out all the stops to make this work and not only that, it was fun.
Of course, we needed the lightness of that episode to counterbalance the darkness of the previous episode, Under the Cloak of War when the Enterprise welcomes one of their greatest foes onboard, a Klingon Ambassador, and old animosities are stirred up.
Then, the final episode, damn, but I hate it (love it) when they finish on an action-packed episode with a ton of drama and, not only that, we pick up a new crew member to the Enterprise. A pivotal character at that, engineering genius, Lt. Montgomery Scott.
And the good news is:
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 will premiere on Paramount+ in 2025. Post-production and visual effects for Strange New Worlds season 3's 10 episodes are underway. Furthermore, Paramount+ will need Strange New Worlds season 3 as the centerpiece of Star Trek in its 2025 schedule.
Does happy dance.
