Agatha All Along : Familiar by Thy Side Season 1, episode 6 Watched Oct 16, 2024
I am so behind in my reviews of Agatha it’s not funny. This week’s episode was centred around Teen (Pet/familiar) and is packed to the gills with surprises and reveals …
So, where to begin? At the beginning I suppose.
Be warned, there are spoilers ahead!
We finally had a solid clue as to who Teen was at the end of episode 4 as the screen faded to grey with Teen wearing a very familiar crown. Now, in Familiar By Thy Side we go one step further, as we learn more about who William Kaplan, starting the episode at his Bar Mitzvah where, surprise surprise, Lilia is a medium offering the kids at the party, tarot readings.
Of course, William wanders into her tent to get his future read. And, as is usual for episodes so far featuring Lilia, we get a few blurted out odd lines that, at the time never make sense. Just keep them all in mind. Prediction a long journey one of transformation, she also noticed his lifeline is split in two. After he leaves we see her drawing a sigil onto a small piece of wood and slipping it into his jacket pocket. Surprise surprise, this is the sigil that seals his lips and, of course, as we know, makes Lilia forget what she’s done. Why? All will be revealed.
Later, after his bar mitzvah, and party, William is being driven home by his parents when something happens, as we’re seeing the purple haze and battle going on outside the car window, that anyone who’s watched Wanda Vision knows, is the battle between Wanda and Agatha. Suddenly, as William finds the sigil in his coat, activating it, the car swerves and crashes into a tree.
It’s in these moments that the spirit of Billy Maximoff enters the dying William’s body calling out, as he gasp a breath, “Tommy!” It’s here that William is now fully Billy, and when the cops turn up who should arrive but, Alice.
Recovering from the crash, we get to see Billy now fully inhabiting William’s body and later, after a 3 year interlude, we catch up with Billy in a car with a now boyfriend. And this is when we get to see his timeline slowly merging toward that of Agatha’s. As we’ve already seen from Agatha’s point of view, we now see Billy break into Agatha’s house seeing events unfold from his point of view.
Back on the witches road, with Agatha climbing out of the slim pit, and confronting Billy about who he is and what he’s looking for at the end of the road, realising it’s not power, which he has in abundance, but his twin brother, Tommy.
This Teen/Billy centric episode has set us up for so much more, especially between Agatha and Billy. I just hope they bring back the rest who, for now, seem to be elsewhere.
