Top Ten Tuesdays: Books that Provide an Escape
Tuesday, September 10, 2024
Bonjour tout la Monde, today’s Top Ten Tuesday, brought to you by The Artsy Reader Girl, is Books That Provide a Much Needed Escape. Which, when you think about it, really, is just about every book we read (except maybe, crime, no one escapes into a crime book … eh, that I know of!)
So escapist books? For me that includes some of my childhood favourites:
- The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis
- Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
- Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
- The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss
- A Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne
- Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
- The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
- War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
- Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne
- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
- The Harry Potter series (yes, I know, it's considered a kids series.)
- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
- Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke
- The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett
- Dune by Frank Herbert
- Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin
- The Perplexing Theft of the Jewel in the Crown by Vaseem Khan
- Captain Moxley and the Embers of the Empire by Dan Hanks
- The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall by Anne McCaffrey
- John Carter of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs
